Exciting final minutes at VGH Tree Walk silent auction

The Virginia Gay Hospital Tree Walk fund-raiser was a success again this year, as hundreds of people bid on more than 50 trees, wreaths and other items for the auction that ended Tuesday.
A few of the trees were so popular that bidders arrived just before five to make sure they had the chance to submit a final bid. Friends of the Shelter participate in Cookie Walk & Howliday Bazaar
Vinton's Friends of the Shelter are offering another way that you can support them, while getting ready for the holidays. There will be a Cookie Walk and Howliday Bazaar on Saturday, December 9 from 11-2:00 p.m. at the Kirkwood Linn County Regional Center located at1770 Boyson Road, Hiawatha (we are at a new location this year).
Stop in for your holiday baked goods! Delicious sweet treats will be for sale, as well as gifts for animals and the people who love them.
'Be the Change' fitness group donates to VGH, plans Sunday flash mob
The "Be the Change" fitness group met on Tuesday, to present a check to the Virginia Gay Hospital Gifts of Hope fund, and to practice for Sunday's flash mob dance performance at 1 p.m. Sunday, during the annual Holiday Open House.
The members do not pay a fee to join Teresa Erger's fitness and dance class, but do make donations, which are passed on to local causes each month. Celebrate Brandy Shirk's birthday by raising money for Honor Flight, Saturday in LPC
For most of the past several years, Brandy Shirk has turned her birthday celebration into a community event that helps raise funds for an important organization.
This year, the trend continues on Saturday evening, Nov. 11, when Brandy and her friends and family will celebrate her birthday at the La Porte City Golf Course, from 5 to 11 p.m.
All proceeds this year will go toward the Cedar Valley Honor Flight organization based in Waterloo, which provides free trips to Washington, D. 13th Annual Tour de Lights set for Dec. 3
The 13th Annual Tour De Lights fundraiser for the Vinton Shellsburg Cross Country and Track team will be held December 3rd, beginning at 5:00 p.m. at the Fire Station.

Historical Society to celebrate first floor Military Room opening Nov. 11 at Horridge House
With the assistance of the VFW Auxiliary, the Benton County Historical Society has revamped the Military Room at the Horridge House. Bringing artifacts of various military items from the second floor to a more accessible room on the first floor, the VFW Auxiliary helped to organize the new and improved collection of military items honoring those who served our country.

Breast Cancer Survivors to Meet
Breast Cancer Survivorswill meet at 5:45 (note time change) Monday, November 13 in the dining room at Windsor Manor.
Guest speaker will be Amie Hass, Genetics Nurse Practioner from Hall-Perrine Cancer Center. She will give a presentation on what is new in genetics, testing, costs, etc.
Dinner cost is $7; no reservations required.

Pack 47 Scouts hope to start to tradition with Cake Auction
Jake Dudley is among the Scouts who have made a cake for tomorrow's First Annual Pack 47 auction.
Along with the many thing Cub Scouts are famous for for -- Pinewood Derby, Scouting for Food, popcorn sales, working with veterans on patriotism -- the Pack 47 Cub Scouts are hoping to start a new tradition this year.
The first-ever and first annual Pack 47 Cake Auction is set for Saturday, Nov. Trick or Treating Schedule
Vinton has set official "Trick or Treat" hours for 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, October 31st.
MOPS/Moms Next will kick things off at 4:30 p.m. with a Trunk or Treat in the Blessed Hope Church parking lot.
Wesley United Methodist Church, 516 2nd Ave,will also hold Trunk or Treat on Tuesday, October 31 from 5-7 p.m. It will be held in the alley behind the church.
